SINGER WELCOMED BY MAYOR

Mr Richard Crooks, the. eminent American tenor, who arrived in Christchurch on Saturday, morning on his concert tour.of the Dominion, was 1 given a warm welcome by musical enthusiasts at an informal reception at: the rooms of the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr J. W. Beanland). The hospitality of the city was offered to the singer by Mr Beanland, and Dr. J. Hight, rector of Canterbury University College, Professor J. Shelley, the newly-appointed Director of Broadcasting, and Mr Will Hutchens also spoke. Mr Crooks thanked the gathering for the very happy method' of welcoming a visitor from another land.
