THE ROYAL SHOW

TO THE EDITOB OF THE PBESS. Sir, —I want to endorse the remarks in “The Press” to-day of “An Exhibitor.” on the omission of the dry cow class at the forthcoming Royal Show. That is hj class that should Ito catered for, because it is not always possible or advisable to have cows freshly calved in time for the November show. In the event of cows being milked for some time before the show they are always handicapped. I remember the late H. E. B. Watson, who was considered one of the best Jersey judges in the Jersey world, telling me when possible to get a show cow to calve about a month before the show Where an * exhibitor cannot have his or her cow calve before then, why not provide a dry cow class at the Royal, as is. usually done at the Christchurch show.

There is another class that I consider should have been in to the Rpyal schedule; it is one for the four-year-old cows. It is a well-known fact that cows do not reach maturity until a later age than four years, yet at the forthcoming Royal they must compete against cows who have reached a more mature age and are thereby in a more favourable state than the four-year-olds. To me this seems, an injustice to the younger cows. It is too late, I suppose, to make an alteration in the Royal schedule, but if it is at all possible, I . sincerely hope that the authorities of the Royal show will make good‘both, omissions.—Yours, etc..
