LAST RUGBY MATCH OF SEASON BRADSHAW £UP LEAGUE 014 SUNDAY The winter sports season on the Coast has now almost finished, and several of the summer sports Bodies will hold their opening days during the week-end. . „ » The final Rugby match of the season between Excelsior (Hokitika) and Blaketown (Greymouth) for the McLean Cup will be played to-morrow and should provide a fitting climax to the season. These teams-have met only once before, when Blaketown i won by 6 points to 5. The game tomorrow should be a very close one, but it is thought that the odds are in favour of the Hokitika team. The final of the junior and third grade knock-out competitions will also be played to-morrow. There will be no Association football matches, as the season has been closed. A senior League match for the Bradshaw Cup between Ngahere and Marist will be the principal attraction on Sunday. If Marist wins this match the club will win the cup. If, however, Ngahere wins Marist will have to play Pirates in the final. There will also be a junior grade one-round game between Marist and Runanga, and a third grade challenge shield match between Runanga and Marist. RIFLE SHOOTING AT GREYMOUTH LARGE ATTENDANCE AT CLUBS' COMBINED BANQUET There was an attendance of about 150 at the annual banquet, dance, and cards evening of the Grey Defence Rifle Club, and the Grey Men's and Women's Miniature Rifle Clubs, which was held recently in the Druids' Hall. The principal returns for the nine months of the year to date are as follows, with the figures for the corresponding period of last year in parenthesis:—Customs duty, £6492 9s 3d (£5663 7s 2d); excise beer duty, £3489 6s 4d (£3368 lis 4d); sales tax, £3134 2s 9d (£2788 6s sd). Rainfall recorded at. the Public Works Department office gauge at Westport during September was 8.68 inches. Rain fell on 23 days during the month, the heaviest fall being one inch on September 12. The fall for September, 1935, was 2.79 inches. The total fall for the three months' period was 29.50 inches compared with 16.82 inches for the corresponding quarter last year.
