WEDDING
FREEMAN—TROTT The marriage of Mavis, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. W. Trott (Papa-, nui), to Edmond James, second son of Mr and Mrs E, Freeman (Papanui) was celebrated recently at St. Andrew’s Church, Oxford terrace, by the Rev. J. Lawson Robinson. Mr R. E. Lake played the wedding music, and two solos were sung by Mrs E. M. Barley. The bride was given away by her father. She wore a lace frock cut on classical lines and finished with a spray of orange blossom at the cowled neckline in front. The sleeves were dared at the wrists, and the flared skirt widened to form a train. A coronet of orange blossom held in place her veil of embroidered tulle, and she carried a bouquet of orchids and freesias. _ . Miss Kathleen Smith and Miss Dons Roberts, who attended as bridesmaids, wore frocks of cherry ring velvet made with Medici collars and trained skirts. Their head-dresses were composed of cherry-coloured flowers to match thenbouquets. Mr F, Ford was best man, and Mr Lloyd Lightfoot acted as groomsman. After the ceremony, the guests Were entertained at Dixieland. Mrs Trott wore a frock of navy floral silk crepe, a tailored coat of wool georgette, and a navy Baku straw hat. She carried hothouse flowers to tone. The bridegroom’s mother wore a Marina blue frock under a fur coat, and her hat was of navy straw. Pastel-shaded flowers were arranged in her bouquet. For travelling, the bride wore a nigger-brown suit, and a Baku straw hat to tone.
“FLAG 500” PARTY
Mrs Millar (Mackenzie avenue) was hostess at a card party given to augment the funds of the women’s branch of the New Zealand Labour party. The pri^e-winners were .Mesdames McGibbon.'Macfarlane and Jacobs. Mr? Stanton won a competition. Those present were Mesdames Millar, Baxandall, Ellis, G. Samms, Rose, J. Flood. M. Treveila, E. OBITUARY
MISS JANET DAVIDSON
The death occurred recently of Miss Janet Davidson, an old and esteemed resident of Christchurch.
Miss Davidson, who was 79 years of age, arrived in New Zealand from Scotland when she was five years old, and had lived in or near Christchurch for nearly 75 years. She did not enjoy robust health, and her friends admired the determination and courage she displayed in devoting so large a portion of her spare time to work in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Sunday School, a work which she continued until about five years ago. Keenly interested in missions,- Miss Davidson was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union and Ladies’ Guild until the time of her death.
PtUNKET SOCIETY
The monthly committee meeting of the Papanui-Merivale sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Papanui Plunket rooms, with Mrs Vernon Mathews presiding. Nurse Merton reported that 182 babies, 195 adults, and 15 pre-school children had been attended at the rooms.

, GIFT PARTIES
At her home in Knowles street Miss Dorothy Lennie gave an enjoyable bridge party to honour Miss Lorraine Barker, whose marriage will take place early next month. The guests, each ot whom brought something green for Miss Barker’s new home, were Mrs T. K. Papprill, Misses Molly Simmonds, Ranui Stewart, Alison Scott, Herjl Rowland, Queenle Wall, Thora Burke, Phyllis Palmer, Mona Sharman, and Nola Tonks.
Mrs J. T. Andrews (Moorhouse avenue) was hostess at a “pantry” gift party in honour of Miss Vera Ramsay, whose wedding whl take place early in October. Competitions were won by Misses R. Pearce and E. Woodward. Those present were Mesdames W. D. Ramsay, J. T. Andrews, P. P. Gay, V. S. Cox, Misses V. Ramsay, N. Ramsay, K. King, E. Woodward, K. Mullins. D. Ash, J. Grimwood, R. “FLAG 500” PARTY
A “flag 500" was held at the home of Mrs Sutcliffe (Richmond) to assist the Linwood Croquet - Club. Prizes given by the hostess were won by Mesdames Coulter, Hunter, and Keast, and Messrs Laurence and Jones. Mrs D, Lee (captain) and Mrs L. Burgess (secretary) thanked Mrs Sutcliffe for her hospitality. Amongst those present were Mesdames F. Harrison, Sorrell, Burgess, Lee, Carter, Sorrell, Coulter, Hunter, Jones, Keast, Lawson, Lutton, Marshall, Moorcroft, Parke, Watkins, Wing, Whittington, Tucker, Shrimpton, Sutcliffe, Misses Tucker and Wilson, Messrs Laurence, Harrison,- Firman, Sutcliffe, Hunter, Sorrell, O. Keast, and Master R. Harrison.
Christmas gifts to be sent to the Church of England missionary fields will be displayed at the Jelhcoe Hall to-morrow from 2.80 p.m. A varied programme has been arranged and afternoon tea will be served. At 6 m there will be a tea rally for Bible classes, and at 730 Bishop West-Watson will distribute prises awarded .in the Christmas gifts competitions. Later Miss May Smyth will give a talk on her recent travels in China and Japan, and a short play will be presented by Toe H League of Women Helpers. \
