AMBERLEY DRAMA CIRCLE CONCERT

The Amberley Drama Circle staged its first of a series of plays in the Amberley Hall recently, when the members of the circle presented to a large and very appreciative audience, the two plays, “The Bride” and “On Dartmoor.” In the first play, the various characters were capably presented by Mesdames J. Schofield, J. D. Boyce, S. Slocombe, E. Cook, Misses Marjorie Frew and Fionna Shier, while Misses E. Armstrong and L. Bowlker, Messrs W. E. Cook, J. Schofield, and D. Shier gave a very realistic presentation of the second play. Other items during the evening included pianoforte duet. Misses B. Breen and M. Frew; pianoforte solo. Miss B. Breen; vocal solos, Miss Mooney, Miss P. Shier, Mr A. Burke; recitation. Miss Colleen Oberry; toe dance. Miss iZ. Lockhart; tap dance. Miss L. Golding; and two songs by a gtoup of school boys. Accompanists during the evening were Miss Breen, Miss L. Bowlker, and Mrs Golding. Mr Hiklop, for the school committee, ■ expressed thanks to the Drama Circle for having given half of the proceeds of the concert to the school 1 funds. ■ ■,

Violet McMillan and Miss Apple was considered suitable. It was decided to hold the arts and crafts exhibition and the drama festival in alternate years. A proposal to provide a silver cup for competition at these events was defeated, and as a matter of convenience each institute was left free to arrange its own annual picnic. The meeting sent a message of sympathy in her illness to Miss R. J. Ware, president of the Cadbrooks institute. The enclosure surrounding the War Memorial in the Public Hall grounds is being prepared for planting a garden. Gifts of native shrubs and standard and climbing roses havd. been made by the Women’s Institute, who have undertaken the formation and upkeep of the garden. Mr T. D. Lennie made a gift of a climbing rose for this purpose.
