JEWELLERY OF HOSPITAL PATIENTS
COLLECTION OF SOUTHLAND . BOARD
INVERCARGILL. August 20.
A strong box produced at the close of the Southland Hospital Board’s meeting to-day provided ample evidence that the allegations of Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P.. about the disposal of the personal effects of patients who died in public hospitals did not apply, to Southland. The box contained an accumulation of watches and jewellery from over the last 30 years. Shabby little purses lay side by side with massive gold and silver watches. curiously carved brooches, the "rage” of 30 years ago, and pocket books. All bore the names and addresses of the late owners. . “We’ll send this collection to Dr. McMillan,” one member of the board suggested, “perhaps he will realise then the absurdity of his statements."
