SHIPWRECK RELIEF SOCIETY
REVIEW OP LAST YEAR’S WORK
Two bequests from former resident* of Dunedin are recorded in the annual report of the Shipwreck Relief Society of New Zealand, presented to the annual meeting of the society held in Dunedin. Referring to these in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the chairman. Hr Justice Kennedy, said that while it was gratifying to receive these additions to the society’s funds, it was hoped that citizens in other parts of the Dominion would remember the society in making their wills, as the society afforded relief to those suffering shipwreck in all parts of the Dominion and the greater part of the society's funds was expended outside Dunedin.
Officers of the society were elected as follows:—Vice-patrons, the Prime Minister (the Hon. M. J. Savage) and the Minister for Marine (the Hen, P. Fraser); president, the Hon. Mr Justice Kennedy; solicitor, Mr J. A. Cook; auditor, Mr C. Russell Smith; executive, Messrs Edgar Hazlett, W. Clarke, W. B. Cunningham, G. F. McKellar, C. W. Sundstrum, F. E. Tyson, Captains H. A. Diliner, R. Fraser, Coll McDonald, and J. C. Mac Lean. The statements of accounts showed that during last year the society had given out £57 ‘is 9d in shipwreck relief, £IOO to the British Sailors’ Society. England, and £3O to the Otago branch of the same society. Donations received from harbour boards during the ydar totalled £B2 14s. and from ships’ passengers £BB 17s 2d. The accumulated fund of the society was £14,542 5s Bd.
