EXECUTIVE SEATS NOT PILLED
UNEMPLOYED WORKERS* MOVEMENT . Because no nominations for its executive were made after a provisional executive was set up some , time ago, and meetings of unemployed called to deal with the position were insufficiently attended, the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Unemployed Workers movement has ceased to function. Members of the movement stated yesterday that it whs not worth while continuing Unless the mass of unemployed gave their support. The affairs of the movement have been in an unsettled condition since the former executive resigned some time ago. The reason for this action was then stated to be that the executive could not agree to the policy proposd by a militant section of members. It was claimed that an attempt was being made to achieve communist domination of the movement.
At a general meeting called to elect a new executive of 12, as required by the rules, only eight of those nominated were willing to take office. These eight acted as the provisional executive, and made arrangements for a ballot among men oh all relief works to determine the final election. However, there were no further nominations, so that the election could not be held.
