WORKMEN INJURED AT HOMER SADDLE CAMP PRO LIGHT TO W ESTPORT FOR MEDICAL ATTENTION [THE PRESS Special Service-1 WESTPORT, August 18, Lack of medical attention is one of the risks that must be run by men working at the Homer Saddle camp near the head of Milford Sound, and when the Government steamer Matai reached Westport to-day she had on board two men, from the Homer Saddle road works, who required hospital treatment. About a week ago, C. E. Curne was felling a tree for firewood when it split up and fell across his foot, breaking a bone and bruising the foot. Currie received first-aid treatment from a nurse stationed at the Milford Sound Hostel, and has been brought to Westport to have the foot X-rayed. Having strained himself when lifting a heavy bridge stringer, G. .Bragg, pf Stewart Island, will also receive medical attention fit Westport. MAN TWICE INJURED (PSE33 AB3oCl*.nop AUCKLAND. August 18Found lying on the corner pf the Portage and Great South roads early this mprning, John McDonald, aged 37, a labourer, of New Lynn, was taken tp Auckland Hospital in an ambulanceHe was suffering from concussion and injuries to his back and right hip, McDonald had injured a thumbwhile working at a phosphate factory at OtahuhU soon after midnight, and was on his way to hospital on a motorcycle when he collided with a car travelling in the opposite directionThe driver of the car did not stop, and the injured man, who had been unconscious, was found by another motorcyclist about an hour later. His condition is not now regarded as serious. SCHOOL BOY INJURED AT FOOTBALL A boy, Frederick Edwards, of E uS ‘ ton street, Riccarton, was admitted to hospital yesterday morning from the Fendalton School with suspected fractures of the right leg and pelvis. The injuries were received while playing a game qf football.
