WELLINGTON, .August Ml The Domm.on observatory’s weather forecast lor Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at S pm., and dealing wim the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate south-westerly winds . at first, but westerly to northwesterly prevailing on Monday and freshening. A few Isolated showers probable, hut weather for the most *irt fair to fine and becoming milder again; seas moderate, but rather rough offshore. The official Dominion summary is; Mainly fair In the eastern districts south of East Cape; elsewhere cloudy to overcast, with further intermittent rain and some heavy falls on the west coast of the South Island; cold tonight. but temperatures becoming milder again to-morrow. Premure rose fairly rapidly In the south during Saturday night, . but the series of westerly depressions Is still advancing from southern Australia across the Tasman Sea towards New Zealand. Winds—South-westerly at first on parts of the east coast, but westerly to north-westerly predominating, moderate to strong generally and increasing again to gale force In places. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch on Saturday was warm and fine, but overcast, more heavily in the afternoon. The barometer fell slowly after midday on Saturday, but was rising yesterday afternoon. Wellington—A strong and squally north-westerly wind blew aU day Saturday, reaching gale force at times. The weather was fine in the morning but the sky gradually clouded- ewer in the afternoon, rain falling at about 3.30 p.m. with heavy showers up to midnight. The total rainfall was .34 inches and the maximum temperature was 56.9 degrees. The wind moderated during the night and the weather had cleared by early yesterday morning, when the wind changed to a light southerly, which was accompanied by dull and threatening conditions. The sky again cleared and the remainder of the day was fine and gunny with a gentle southerly wind. The maximum temperature was 57.8 degrees. Dunedin—The weather on Saturday was fine with a very light breeze from the south-west and intermittent sunshine. The barometer fell, but rose again later. The maximum temperature was 34 degrees.
