OBITUARY
MR E. W. EASTERBROOK
The death of Mr Ernest Whymond Easterbrook, a well-known resident of Ashburton, occurred suddenly at his residence, 129 Cameron street, Ashburton, last evening. Mr Easterbrook, who had been a resident of the district for nearly 40 years, was born at Christchurch 64 years‘ago and received his early education there, as well as at Southbrook. As a young man he joined the Canterbury Frozen Meat and Export Company, at Belfast, and was transferred to Ashburton when the company opened its works at Fairfield.
Mr Easterbrook took a keen interest in all branches of sport. He was an active member and past president of the Ashburton Bowling Club. He was a foundation member of the Papanui Oddfellows’ Lodge and took a prominent part in freemasonry. He was a past master of the Thistle Lodge, Ashburton, and held office in the Chapter Lodge and the Provincial Grand Lodge. He was a former member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church vestry. He leaves a widow, and a daughter and son, Miss I. Easterbrook and Mr E. R. Easterbrook (Ashburton). A motif ■' i f sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr E. W. The death has occurred of Mr William Lowe, a leading city business man whs was head of Lowes, Ltd., which conducts 11 department stores in the city, and suburbs. He was aged 61.
