GUARANTEED PRICE ATTACKED
DESCRIBED AS NOT ECONOMIC
SOUTHLAND FARMERS PROTEST (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) INVERCARGILL, .August 13. About 40 representatives of dairy factory directorates, who attended the ward conference of the New Zealand 'Dairy Board to-day, expressed the disappointment of the industry in Southland with the fixed price for dairy produce announced by the Government last week, : It was emphasised that no allowance had been made for greatly increased costs of production and the conference was unanimous in the opinion that, in comparison with their overhead costs, dairymen were entitled to a better return for their labour. There was not a dissentient voice when the following motion was carried: “That this meeting is of the opinion that the guaranteed price as promised by the Government is not an economic one. as extra costs have not been taken into consideration, and urges reconsideration by-the Government with a view to a higher price being paid.” ~ ' The conference was presided oyer by Mr John Dunlop, South Island representative on the Dairy Board, who introduced Mr A. J. Murdoch, chairman of the board. Both addressed the meeting touching lightly on the-guar-anteed price itself, and discussing the future of the board. Mr T. C. Brash secretary to the board, was also present. , , .
