GRANT BY WAR FUNDS COUNCIL
(?|IS9 *S*OCIATtO» T«LIOiAM.) WELLINGTON. August 13. At the twenty-first annual meeting of the National War Funds Council, held yesterday, the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) expressed the opinion that the time had arrived for a greater degree of co-operation between the various societies and suggested that a committee might be set up to investigate the position generally. After Mr Parry left. Mr C. M. Luke was elected to the chair. Mr Parry's suggestion was fully approved and an executive was appointed to represent the council. The statement of accounts showed that the accumulated fund was £102.070, and trust funds totalled £8983. The income and expenditure account showed an excess of expenditure of £12,972, against £13.027 for the previous period, making £46,000 excess expenditure for the last four years. Investments showed no change, though lower interest was reflected by the reduced income. The subsidy to Flock House trainees is to be continued. The sum of £SOO was approved towards the establishment of the Christchurch cottage homes scheme. A report covering general relief showed that £15,189 had been spent in the last year and unemployment expenditure was £13,878. Grants for unemployment relief now totalled £85,471.
