CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN

ATTESTATION BY NEW ZEALAND CUSTOMS OFFICERS U'KKort ASSOCIATION I KI.E' UlAil., WELLINGTON, August 10. The Minister for Customs, the Hon. W. Nash, has issued the following statement under an ordinance piomulgaled by Japan on June 23, and which is to operate for one year: "The importation into Japan from Australia of wheat, wheat flour, and wool, including waste or old wool, is prohibited. while a surtax of 30 per cent. ad valorem,' is applied to beef, butter, condensed milk, hides and skins beef tallow, and casein of Australian origin. The ordinance further provides that any person in Japan who imports any goods of the classes mentioned above, shall produce a certificate of the origin of such gcods except when they are imported by mail or when their cost does not exceed 100 yen. The certificate must designate the marks, names, number, and quantity of the articles and also the locality where they were produced or manufactured, and it must be attested by an Imperial consulate or, in places where there is no imperial consulate, by a customhouse or other Governrjent office or the Chamber of Commerce and Industry existing in the place where the goods were produced, manufactured, purchased or shipped. In order to avoid any difficulties arising in connexion with shipments to Japan of goeds of the classes referred to, exporters are advised to arrange for certificates of origin to a_company the documents relating to goods. Collectors of customs at ports throughout New Zealand will attest such certificates if requested to do so.’’
