INTER-ISLAND STEAMER WHARF

ACCESS FOR MOTOR-CARS Support for the proposal to widen the inter-island steamer wharf at Lyttelton so as to allow access for motor-cai's, was expressed by the Mayor (Mr J. W. Beanland) at a meeting of the City Council last night. The proposal was put before the Harbour Board at its meeting last week, and will be considered at its next meeting. The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, the South Island Motor Union, and the Automobile Association (Canterbury) have all expressed their agreement with the proposal. The Mayor said he thought the council should support these other organisations in asking the Harbour Board to do something to widen the wharf sufficiently to make it available for motor-cars. He understood that the board was contemplating the widening of the wharf, and he felt that if a little additional width was allowed it would be in the interest of everybody.
