VICTIMISATION ALLEGED
RAILWAY WORKSHOPS DISSATISFACTION
NO EVIDENCE FOUND BY GENERAL MANAGER
. [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, August 10. Dissatisfaction with general working conditions in Ihe Hutt railway workshops culminated on Friday in a mass meeting of workers, attended by more than 600. The meeting protested against the alleged victimisation of trade union officials in the Hutt shops, contending that these men were being prevented by workshop officials from carrying out the basic principles of trade unionism. There were also allegations of the adoption of “pinpricking” methods by the management of the shops. It was decided to call on the Railway Tradesmen’s Association and the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants to have the status of trades union officials placed on a satisfactory Interviewed about the allegations today, the general manager, Mr G. H. Mackley, said: “I could find no evidence of pin-pricking. I believe the men themselves would agree there is no .such thing as pin-pricking in evidence in the management of the shops. I had a discussion with representatives of the men, and these discussions were entirely; satisfactory to the men and to the management.” , *. A meeting of the combined committees of the. Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and , the Railway Tradesmen’s Association was held at Lower Hutt to-day, when a motion was carried (unanimously expressing appreciation of the prompt and able manner in which the general manager had dealt with the workshops trouble.
