VISITORS AT WINTER SHOW
LARGE PARTIES FROM SCHOOLS The Winter Show yesterday attracted 2154 adult visitors and 415 children, as well as large parties from various schools. The show is, as usual, proving very successful; the exhibits are attractive and original, and the keenest interest is being shown by the public. Special interest is being shown in the working models,'and in the novel presentations of the trade displays. Each day about 1000 children will visit the show. The schools represented yesterday were:—Normal (160), Lyttelton (120), Cashmere (90), East Christchurch (290). West Lyttelton (60), and Belfast (44). Another large group of schools will Visit the show to-day. On arrival the children are addressed by the organiser, Mr E. H. Marriner, on the need for supporting local industries, and alter their visit are expected to write an essay on “Impressions of the Winter Show.” In an .essay competition a prize of a guinea has been offered for the best description of the North Canterbury exhibit. Large numbers of school children from Hokitika, Greymouth, and Westport will be travelling to Christchurch during the week, and the organisers are anxious that billets should be found for some of the visitors. Those ■who wish to assist are asked to telephone the organiser, Mr Marriner. . Attractions at the show for to-day and this evening are:—Madame Karnos’s Punch and Judy, the Flying Colenos. Bloy’s Banjo Band, and dancing by Miss Bessie Macdonald’s pupils. SMALLEST MONKEY IN NEW ZEALAND Bom in Christchurch on June 23, there is on exhibition at the Winter Show what is probably the smallest monkey in New Zealand, and among the smallest in the world. It weighed two ounces at birth, and has now increased to just more than four. It is the daughter of “Skinny,” well known to children who have watched monkeys driving cars in side-shows.
