FIVE DAY WEEK
TO THE EDITOB 0» THB FRIOS. Sir,—Our wise men of the city, our modern Shylocks, this body Of men who are able to talk their way out of any tight corner, hav. managed to crawl out of paying employees overtime. Now I, as an experienced clerk, know that there are legal offices in this town? to-day taking advantage of this and are working their staff till 5.30 and 6 p.m. each night and till well after 12 o'clock on Saturdays. Would it be too hard to suggest that our so-called sleepy-head union wake up and take action instead of preaching it. As we work extra time during the week I put it to those interested that we should have a five-day week and have Saturday morning off for the time we are kept after 5 o'clock. The Government made a big mistake in letting solicitors off so lightly as to the overtime.—Yours, etc., LAW CLERK. August 3, 1936.
[When the above letter was referred to him, Mr A. S. Taylor, president of the Law Society, preferred to make no comment.]
