FENDALTON TRAM SERVICE
TO THE EDITOR OF TUB PRESS. Sir,—Twelve months have now passed gince the meeting was called in St. Barnabas' School-room, Fen dal ton, to decide the fate of the Fendalton tramway service. As is generally known; the outcome of the meeting was to abandon the idea of one-man trams, because a few motorists objected to what they called the inconvenience of laying a “Y” loop at the corner of Clyde road and Fendalton road. Since then (July 25, 1935) absolutely nothing has been done to improve our tramway service—and th . Tramway Board must know that it is not treating the Fendalton and Opavta residents at all fairly. , .. In replying to a correspondent’s letter on this subject, dated September 16, 1935, Mr H. E. Jarman seemed rather hopeful that we Fendalton people would soon benefit by a better service, but the old humdrum way still exists. Evidently the board think it better to “let well alone,” and ignore the Fendalton service altogether. The cars are a joke, nothing more nor • less can be said about this. Remarks have been overhead by passengers in the Square when waiting tor trams, and they have seen an ‘ark type car bearing the sign “Fendalton. “Hello! where’s old Noah taking hi? tram to?” This in itself reflects quite n lot on the board, for using contraptions such as we are suffering now. However, the spring and summer months are swiftly approaching, when the cyclists will reappear, rather than travel in a tram which takes IT minutes to run from Clyde road to the Square, when they can enjoy a fresh ride across the park in, say, 12 minutes. , , . Perhaps when the new board is elected in November next we shall he put on a footing with other districts, and be given the service wc are entitled to. Up till then, things will remain as at present, with the boards faith hopelessly shattered m the eyes of the Fendalton tramway users.— Yours, etc., SERVICEAugust 6, 1936.
