OF PLANS AND ESTIMATES '
The new railway’station for Christiehurch will be situated a little to the east of the present station, and substantial progress has been made towards the completion of the plans and the estimates for the work in order that the proposals should receive the consideration of the Government. An announcement to this effect was made by the Minister for Railways (the Hon. p. G. Sullivan), who is paying a brief visit to Christchurch, in an interview inn Saturday. “The proposal provides for the erection of a new station somewhat to the east of the present site;” said the Minister. “and this has added importance because with a station placed at the ttoint suggested the problem presented py the Colombo street crossing will be simplified. In the present circumstances the crossing presents a most difficult problem for engineers, but the Railways Department has found that the problem can be approached from a new and more promising angle if' the Kte of the station is movM to the east "Very good progress has been made m the preparation of plans and it should be possible lor the whole matter to be considered at a comparatively early; date.” he concluded.
