Public Service Commissioner
According to the latest issue of the Public Service Journal delay in the appointment of a Public Service Commissioner is causing disquiet in the service. There is good reason why this should be so, for reorganisation which is necessary cannot take place until a new commissioner is appointed, and anticipation of impending change must inevitably create unrest among workers in the Public Service, who would prefer to have changes made promptly instead of going on from month to month disturbed needlessly by anticipations of the future. The Government, which has been so active in some ways, has been remarkably tardy in making a number of other appointments such as that of Samoan administrator and new Government directors of the Bank of New Zealand. The appointment, however, which is of immediate importance is that of Public . Service Commissioner and there is really no excuse for continued delay. The Government must know the two or three men from whom the final selection would have to be made, and now, with a respite from legislative activity, time should be spared for this urgent matter.
