THE ONION MARKET
*0 THE EDITOR Of tWM pass*.
Sir.— Owing to the early arrival of Japanese onions, merchants and dealers appear to be neglecting the New Zea-land-grown product, regardless of the fact that ample supplies of good quality local onions are available for the next two or three months. Perhaps you could inform me why commercial quotations for onions are higher today than the price being offered by the merchants. The Minister for Industries and Commerce appears to want to help the onion-growing section of the community, and may bo able to do this by providing improved marketing facilities for the local crop before the imported onions are brought Into consumption. It would be interesting to hear the views of other growers.— Yours, etc., ’ H. McKAY. July 3, 1936.
