CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING

PACKS SET FAST PACE GOOD ATTENDANCES AT RUNS ON SATURDAY With half the cross-country running aeason gone runners are now fit, and on Saturday most packs set a fast pace. The weather was excellent, and there were good attendances. It Is expected that there will be keen competition at the Halswell race next Saturday. The results of Saturday’s runs were;— CHRISTCHURCH CLUB The Christchurch packs, who ran from the Sign of the Takahe as the guests of Mr B. A. Barrer, followed a hard trail of five miles across the hills., There was an attendance of about 30 runners. The results Were;— Fast Pack—T. Wilhelm 1. S. Wilhelm 2, D. H. Pannell 3. L, E. Fox 4. MARIST CLUB Marist Club members were the guests of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, the Cottage, Mount Magdala. The trail, which was laid by P. Scully and A. Hendren, led through Addington, Halswell, and Sockbum. The results were:— Fast Pack—A. Flanagan 1, T. Fitzsimmons 2, P. Consedine 3. Medium pack: A. O’Connell 1, T. O’Byme 2, F. Hendren 3. BAPTIST CLUB There was an attendance of about 25 runners at the Baptist Club’s run, which was held from the home of Mr and Mrs E. S. G. Harrison. There was a good deal of road work in the trail, which led through Bryndwr, Russley, and Harewood. The results were:— Fast pack—F. Mair 1. J. Turner 2, E. Riddle 3. Medium pack: S. D. Handisides 1, G. Garlick 2. M. L. Carter 3. Slow pack: S. Wilton 1. R. Balch 2, R. Nelson 3. UNIVERSITY CLUB An easy five-mile trail through Opawa, Woolston, and St. Martina, was followed by the University packs, who ran from St. Mark’s Church. Opawa. The results were;— Racing Pack—K. W. Robinson 1, A. McD. Stevenson 2, A. T. Johns 3. Fast pack; L. Wilkinson 1. R. Clark 2. T. M. Penny 3. Medium pack: J. M. Steeds 1. F. C, Taylor 2, D. W. Sheppard 3. Slow pack: D. Low 1, W. O. Mapplebeck 2, N. W. Collins 3. METHODIST CLUB Members of the Methodist Club were the guests of Mr C. W. Barrel], Clarence road. A. fast pace was set over a five-mile trail. The results were:— Fast pack—G. R. Clothier 1, H. Ford C. A. Wayman 3. PRESBYTERIAN CLUB There was an attendance of more than 80 at the Presbyterian Club’s run, which was held from the Presbyterian Boys’ Home, Papanui. The host was Mr V. French. G. Watson and N. Hansen laid a trail of about six miles through Papanui. Harewood. and Waimairi. The results were;— Racing Pack—R. Ritchie 1, J. Labudde 2, C. C. Gordon 3. Fast pack: G. Hlllier 3, B. Lindsay 2, L. A. Rankin 3. Medium pack: J. Rogers 1, C. Taylor 2. M. Wells 3. Slow pack: R. Bowker 1, J. Poison 2. J. Ritchie 3. ANGLICAN CLUB A trail through Shirley, Marshland, and Burwood was followed by the Anglican packs. The trail was laid by J. Brooker and L. C. Johansen. The results were Fast pack—A. Brady 1, L, Hyde 2, D. Clibborn 3. Medium pack: D. Forbes 1. F. Gillett 2, W. Cullens 3. Slow pack: A. Menzies 1, D. Minson 2, B. Taylor 3.
