CHRISTCHURCH SATURDAY’S TRANSACTIONS Markets generally were firm on call on Saturday morning, and the turnover for Saturday was above the average. The outstanding features on call were the sharp rises in Bank of New Zealand and New Zealand Breweries. Transactions, exclusive of vestibule business, were:—

Commercial Bank of Australia preference, cum dividend, had dealings at £9 2s, and more were offered at £9 3s, buyers at £9 Is 6d. The ordinary were easier with sellers and business at 19s. Bank of New Zealand rose to 425, buyers staying in at that price, sellers at 42s 3d. Union Banks were firm with sellers and business at £9 Bs.

New Zealand Refrigerating 10s paid were firm at 9s 4d, the market closing Id either way. New Zealand Breweries had dealings at 545, buyers staying in at that price, sellers at 54s 6d. Australian Glass were easier with sellers at 90s 3d. British Tobacco were fractionally firmer at 40s lOd, market closing 40s 9d buyers, 41s sellers. Broken Hill Proprietary had business at 73s 9d, and further sellers at that price, buyers at 73s 4d. The 15s paid moved up to 55s 9d, the market closing 55s 7d buyers, 55s 9d sellers. Dunlop Rubber were firmer on buyers’ offers, 17s lOd. G. J. Coles recovered to 86s and 86s 6d, the market closing 86s buyers, 86s 9d sellers. Hume Pipe were firm at 20s 6d, the market closing Id either way. Morts Dock moved up to 12s, and more were wanted at that figure. Wilcox Mofflin were fractionally firmer with sellers and business at 11s 6d, buyers 11s sd. Mount Lyell changed hands at 24s 2d, buyers staying in at that figure, sellers at 24s 3d. Mount Morgan remained unaltered with sellers and dealings at 15s Id. Unlisted Stocks A late sale of Selfridges (Australasia) on Friday was reported at 275, and sellers on Saturday at that price, buyers at 255.
