COUNTY EMPLOYEES’ UNION

SUGGESTION SUPPORTED BY HALSWELL COUNCIL

A resolution approving of a suggestion from the Tauranga County Council that if county unions were' to be formed there should be one embracing all and only county employees, and distinct from other unions, was adopted at the monthly meeting of the Halswell County Council. Members present were Crs. E. Paterson (chairman), H. J. Macartney, J. Sharp, WGardiner, and J. Doyle. . It was resolved that rates be levied in accordance with a notice of motion given at the last ordinary meeting. In reply to a circular letter from the Main Highways Board, the clerk forwarded an application for one mile 40 chains from Rainey’s bridge to Tai Tapu. and one mile 60 chains of Halswell Junction road, to be declared' main highways. The Canterbury Progress League forwarded a report on a five-year pay ing programme for Canterbury. Cr. Macartney reported that the roads committee had decided to bring the Halswell county section of the Ghristchurch-Lincoln via Selwyn Huts, secondary highway into the two-year programme. Mr J. Mackenzie forwarded a report on the condition of Cossars bridge. It was resolved that the report be adopted, and certain repairs be carried put as suggested.
