The magistrate said: “The punishment for this class of offence is extremely light, being £5 for each day on which deception is practised. A man like this could cause untold harm. It is no use fining this man, as he has no money.” i It was stated on behalf of the police that in addition to the charges laid, they knew he had been passing himself off as a registered medical practitioner. He had previous convictions for being in possession of dangerous drugs, for indecent assault, and for assault, and yesterday he appeared for sentence in the Supreme Court and was sentenced to 12 months’ imnrisohment for false pretences. The charges of practising as a doctor arose from investigations made when Sligo was a resident at Titahi Bay in April. It was reported that he was practising as a doctor.
