VETERANS’ BONUS PAID
«. POSTMEN DELIVER VALUABLE MAIL (Received June 15. 10.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 14. The biggest pay day in the Government’s history was to-day, when postmen delivered baby bonds aggregating 1,650,000,000 dollars to 30,000,000 Great War veterans. There were celebrations by veterans’ associations throughout the nation to mark the greatest event of its kind in United States history.
The police were ready for the swift prosecution of confidence men and other get-rich-quick tale spinners. Armed national guardsmen were mobilised for any emergency in huge delivery buses. A wave of buying and consequent trade pickings is expected.
