NON-PERMANENT POSTMASTERS
TO THE EDITOR OT THE PRESS. Sir, —A!s the Labour Government has decided to restore all wage cuts to its employees and to raise the wages and salaries of all workers generally, 1 think it time that some consideration was given to the miserable remuneration paid to non-permanent postmasters, who, during the last few years, have had their duties very considerably increased (but not their pay) by the Government imposing on the Postal Department the collecting of taxes, levies, etc. As the Post and Telegraph Department is a very profitable institution, being able to have £1,000,000 accumulated, I consider it is due to the Postmaster-General to have a return prepared showing the number of nonpermanent postmasters and mistresses engaged and the amount paid in salaries. If he will do this, I am sure he will get a great surprise to find the amount of service being rendered for only a miserable pittance, which in most cases includes premises or part of shops rent free. As it appears that the formation of unions is now all the go, why not all non-permanent postmasters form a union and demand decent wages for services rendered?— Yours, etc., ' ONE OF THE UNFORTUNATES.
