INSTITUTE PARTIES

An enjoyable party was held to celebrate the third birthday anniversary of the Gore Bay Women’s Institute. Mrs McClintock (president! welcomed members from Cheviot, Spotswood, Domett, and Parnassus Institutes. During the afternoon, items were given by Mrs Fuller, Mrs Coe, and Mrs Harris, and competitions were won by Mrs Brewins. Miss Brewins. and Miss D. McClintock. Mrs Harris was the pianist for community singing. Mrs Bennett (vice-president), in a speech, presented a posy of flowers to Mrs Brewins and Miss Brewins, retiring president and secretary respectively, and also presented the prizes for the year’s competitions, as follows; Home competitions. Mrs Walls 1, Mrs Brewins 2, Mrs McClintock 3; hostesses’ competition, Mrs Wood 1, Miss Brewins 2, and Mrs Tweedie 3. The four visiting presidents then judged the afternoon’s competitions! which were as follows: Three chrysanthemums, Miss Copper 1, Mrs Walls 2, Mrs and Miss D. McClintock (equal) 3; vase of flowers, Mrs Walls 1, Mrs Brewins 2, Mrs Tweedie 3. Mrs Fuller, on behalf of the visiting institutes, thanked the Gore Bay Institute for its hospitality.

INSTITUTE’S ANNIVERSARY Following an afternoon meeting, the Mayfield Women’s Institute held its sixth birthday celebrations in the Band Hall. Mrs J. J. Mulligan (president) welcomed the guests, who included visitors from Ruapuna. Lismore, Ashburton. Anama. and Ealing. The hall had been decorated with chrysanthemums and greenery, and the institute colours, blue and gold. The institute song “Comrades and Friends” was sung, and music for dancing was supplied by Cook’s Orchestra (Lyndhurst). Mr L. Lilley was master of ceremonies. Those present were Mesflames J. J.
