There are certain minor ambiguities, however, in the act, which might well be made clearer, and I am submitting a report thereon to the council. SCHOOL TO INDUSTRY SECONDARY FACILITIES NEGLECTED REPORT BY TIMARU HEADMASTER Saying that public attention had been drawn in another centre to the heavy community loss entailed by too early transition from school to industry, the principal o£ the Timaru Technical College (M r F. L. N. Tuck) expressed the opinion to a meeting of the board of management, over which the Rev. J. D. McArthur presided, that with the marked increase in the number of opportunities for employment parents would be well advised to allow their children to take full advantage of the -educational facilities provided by the State. Mr Tuck reported that the roll of the Technical High School had been depleted by 20. A regrettable feature was the inclusion in that number of nine first-year pupils, who had received only three months’ post-primary schooling. It was reported that evening class enrolments now numbered 323, compared with 316 in August last year, and the arrangements had the approval of the Education Department. Woolclassing had begun with a class roll of 10 students, which it was hoped would soon be increased. The report was adopted.
