CASHMERE ELECTRICITY

TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir,—Your correspondent “Cheaper Power” is justified in reviving this matter. Mr Scarfl, the county chairman, says he has a personal scheme, but if one judges 0| the progress made since the petition was presented, then his scheme must be a "five-year plan.” His “scheme” or “plan” will need some revision in view of the new Municipal Electricity Department rates of supply detail in “The Press” today. It more than halves the present Cashiere rates. What do ihe other councillors say? Evidently Mr Seartt is going to have “no leakages.” “Cheaper Power” peed not be unduly concerned as a gas user. If he studies the Heathcote accounts he will find that some of the electricity profitf go to provide

other services for which l.e should be rated, so he is getting a benefit altalthough not using electricity for cooking. The time is certainly oppor* time for an announcement as to the future for Cashmere.—Yours, etc., ACT NOW. June 9, 1936.
