THE LITTLE ENTENTE An Alliance Reported
The Little Entente, Czechoslovakia, Rumania, and Jugoslavia, will become a formal aMiance, says a report from London. These three countries have hrd defensive understandings for more than 10 years, and since 1933 they have been more elaborately connected than before. In 1921 they formed what has been known as the Little Entente (entente, a French word meaning, a modern political use, a friendly understanding between states) and in 1933 they drew up provisions which made their relations more than a friendly understanding. In April of this year these three countries sent notes of disapproval to Austria when she broke the 1919 treaty of Saint-Germain by reintroducing conscription or compulsory military training or service.
It is said now that the Entente will probably become a formal defensive alliance; there has recently been held a secret conference of the heads of the Little Entente. They fear the restoration of the Hapsburgs in Austria and are alarmed at the state of affairs in France and in Europe generally.
