For the second time in seven weeks the railway settlement at Turuturu road. Hawera, has run short of water. The aid of the borough council had to be sought at the end of last week, 400 gallons being taken by water-cart to the settlement. The storage for a communal supply in times of drought is limited and periodical visits will be made to renlenish the available tank until the weather breaks. The present dry spell is phenomenal for Hawera at this time of the year. Although the water-cart has been commissioned several times to supply tho railway settlement, which is without a water service, the necessitv has never before risen at this time of the year.

“We have the best country in the world, but there is one thing we need,” said Mr W. K. Cameron, when speaking in reply to a toast at the annual reunion of the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band. “We must have a national movement to bring our youth together. More casualties were caused in the early stages of the Great War through utter ignorance and want of leadership than any other cause, and that must not happen again.” Mr Cameron urged the Scottish organisations to take the lead in this matter and make their voices heard towards the formation of an organisation which would have as its object the training of the country’s youth for the responsibilities which were its heritage.
