DIET AND HEALTH
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —I have been much interested in the subject of “Diet and Health,” and like your correspondent, Mrs Garden, I also am very pleased to have met Mr Devereaux. I suffered with stomach trouble and other ailments for some years, and followed out a similar treatment to Mrs Garden’s. In a few weeks I was a different man. Before that I had taken no end of “dope,” which generally made things worse. We are a family of five and now all enjoy good health although we do not keep strictly to the diet. Like Mrs Garden, I am satisfied that white bread and all the fancy cakes and confections we see so much of are no good to anyone.—Yours, etc,, STILL VERY FIT. June 8. 1936.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —Eglon Sercombe in his letter to-day says, “When you are sick, see a trained doctor, not a common quack.” He also mentions Christ. I must draw his attention to the fact that the majority of the people in his day considered Him (Christ) a quack, just because he advocated something different from what the so-called trained men believed in.
We have been guided for a good many years by the so-called trained medical men, and most of us are either in, or ready to go into the hospital. Now, when some of our brave medical men have broken away from the old orthodox way, and have absolutely proved that most of this sickness can be prevented, is it just, is it common sense to dub them quacks? With regard to Eglon Sercombe’s breakfast (porridge, bacon and eggs, etc.), that is just what the majority of the people have for their breakfast when they can get it, and that is just why so many are sick. Until the people change their diet, they will be sick in spite of quacks.—Yours, etc.,
T „ , diet. June 9, 1936. [Subject to the right of reply of “Dietitian” this correspondence is now closed.—gd., “The Press.”]
