ELUSIVE STOWAWAY
ESCAPE FROM AORANGI
U'RBSS ASSOCIATION TELEOBAM.) AUCKLAND, June 8. One passenger was missing when the Aorangi left for Sydney to-night, a stowaway who had been kept on board under custody since Sunday, but who escaped about four hours before the vessel was due to sail. The stowaway, a half-caste Samoan, boarded the Cape York at Apia on her last trip north, and was landed from that vessel at Vancouver. Arrangements had been made for him to be sent back to Samoa from Sydney, but he upset them by leaving the vessel suddenly. He was seen on board at approximately 5.40 p.m., and was noticed in Queen street only five minutes later. The police kept a lookout for him. but he had not been located by the time the Aorangi left the wharf. Another stowaway, who was found on the Aorangi after she left Suva, remained on board under custody while the vessel was in Auakland.
