ASHBURTON RACING CLUB

WINTER MEETING

The Ashburton Racing Club’s winter meeting, held on Saturday in ideal weather, attracted a large crowd of Mid-Canterbury racing enthusiasts. Warm tweeds, with brown as the predominating colour, were the most favoured materials for suits or coats. Small hats of felt to match suits or ensembles were brightened with quills or motifs. Bright music was supplied by the Ashburton Silver Band. Among those present were Mrs J. H. Grigg, who wore a brown checked suit, dark brown tarn hat, fox stole. Mrs A. N. Boyd (Radcliffe road) entertained a number of friends of their eldest daughter, Violet, to celebrate her coming-of-age. The time was spent in games, competitions, and musical items. Music was supplied by Misses D. Blackburn, Mavis and Doris Boyd, and Mr Keith Harris. Competitions were won bf Misses Rhbna Wilson, Doreen Blackburn, Messrs J. Markwick and Keith Harris. Those present were Mr and Mrs D. Boyd, Mrs Crawford, sen. (Belfast), Mrs T. Marten.
