BILL ABANDONED
BRITISH COAL INDUSTRY
(Received May 26, 11.40 p.m.) LONDON, Mav 26. The Government has abandoned the Coal Mines Bill. f A message received on May 20 said: The Government suffered what all the newspapers describe as humiliation in the House of Commons when Mr Walter Runciman, moving the second reading, of the Coal Mines Bill, detailed the amendments the Government proposed to make. Labour members protested that they were confronted with a new bill with concessions to the ownem’ viewpoint, indicating that the Government did not know its own mind. Mr Winston Churchill supported Labour members’ views.]
