War Office Planning New Force MINISTER’S STATEMENT (ukitbd press association-copyright.) (Received May 26, 10.50 p.m.) LONDON, May 26. Mr A Duff-Cooper (Minister for War) in a letter to a Manchester correspondent, reveals that the War Office is planning a new national defence force. The correspondent wrote stating that numbers of returned soldiers were anxious to entol themselves for the defence of the country, and su / g f e^ g w e Cre ' a < ion of a home defence force. m- Duff-Cooper, replying, said the War Office was at present considering the establishment of force by reorganising and emarg ing the existing royal defence corps, giving opportunities to returned sol diers to help in the defence of the The formation of a royal defence corps was announced two years agoT but was never properly organised. It was to consist of middleaged returned soldiers who, in wartime, would run essential home services, and assist the air and other defence schemes.
