TRAMS TO RAILWAY STATION
SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE DESIRED
The Christchurch Tramway Board was overlooking a source of revenue in not running early trams on Sunday mornings, said Mr L. A. Jarden a' last evening's meeting of the council of the United Burgesses’ Association. He said that though one train left the Christchurch station at 8.30 on Sundav mornings, no tram left its depot until 10.2 a.m., and most left about 10.30. This meant that passengers by early trains lost the service of the trams. The chairman (Mr A. Peverill) said he was confident that the Tramway Board would be willing to consider any request for facilities for persons leaving and arriving by early trains on Sunday mornings. The real difficulty in coping with tram traffic to the railway station was that only one tram ran to the station, said Mr S. W. Richardson. A suggestion had been made that several tram routes could be so altered that they passed by the station, as in other centres. A special bus might also be run to the station.
Several speakers said that there was no tram to meet passengers who arrived at Christchurch by the steamer express cn Sunday mornings.
Mr Jarden said that his association, the Opawa-Hillsborough Association, had already written to the Tramway Board asking for better facilities for railway passengers, and he had brought the matter up as he considered that it was the concern of all parts of the city. The meeting instructed the secretary to write to the Tramway Board along the lines of the discussion.
