The stray dog nuisance in Lyttelton has recently been under consideration by the borough council, many complaints having been received from shopkeepers. The borough inspector (Mr G. M. Daniel) has procured a copy of the by-laws of the Palmerston North Borough Council, which prohibit, under a heavy penalty, owners allowing dogs tn the streets except on a lead, and authorising the local registrar of dogs or any police constable to shoot or otherwise destroy any dog known to be dangerous. The council has decided, before framing by-laws to control dogs, to procure from other municipalities copies of their by-laws.
