MANY APPLICATIONS

* POSITIONS AS INSPECTORS (TRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, May 25. Hundreds of applications have been received for positions of inspectors of factories, scaffolding inspectors, and shearers’ accommodation inspectors, which are to be filled shortly with the object of securing more rigid observance of labour laws. About 12 new inspectors are to be appointed, and final choice will rest with the Public Service Commissioner. Another appointment to be made shortly is that of an additional conciliation commissioner. At present there are two commissioners, Mr P. Hally, for the North Island, and Mr S. Ritchie, for the South Island. For some months Mr Hally has been prevented from carrying out his duties owing to illness.
