The operation was carried out in the presence of Dr. James Thomson >' * (medical superintendent of the DutipSi edin Hospital) and Dr. Marion Whyte, Dr. K. Ross, and Dr. R. Butchart. It was performed by tße.'i's veteran surgeon with the same markable skill and steadiness that?V| marked his work when he intro-'-/. -f] duced this type of surgery to Dominion in 1884, the first operatioa?U being performed by him in Dunedin. The hospital theatre has not been equipped with the modern struments for the purchase of which iVF Mr Samuel Saltzman made a gift .'. v : of £ 1000 in October of last year; but these are expected to be aa^ sembled within the next six months. -V
