THE BRIDLE PATH

LYTTELTON COUNCIL’S

CO-OPERATION

The Lyttelton Borough Council, at its meeting last evening, .received from the Town Clerk of Christchurch (Mr J. S. Neville) a copy of a resolution by his council offering to co-operate with the authorities concerned in the restoration of the Bridle Path. The letter enquired as to the views of the Lyttelton Borough Council. The Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) said the path was a very rocky one. It could be put in order for pedestrians but not for vehicles. The council could not go to any great expense.

Cr. J. D. Sargentina said the council should co-operate with the other bodies. There was no more historic road in Canterbury, and there was no more dilapidated one. He moved that a reply be sent to the Christchurch City Council stating that the council was willing to co-operate in the restoration of the path. Cr. R. Fenton seconded the motion. Cr. G. S. Morris said the road was in very bad order on the Lyttelton side, but the Public Works Department had put the Heathcote side in good order. They should endeavour to get the support of the Government in repairing the path. Cr. T. B. Hempstalk supported the motion. He said the council in the past had spent a lot of money on the Bridle Path. Cr. J. N. Neville also supported the motion, which was carried.
