EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION
DOMINATIONS CALLED FOB An election to fill the vacancies on the Educaiton Board caused by the retirement of half of the representatives of the various wards in the Canterbury education district will be held on July 15. Nominations will be received at the office of the board up to 5 pm. on June 24. Candidates must be nominated in writing, and the nominations must bear the signatures of two electors and tne candidates’ notice of consent. The electors are members of school committees. The election will be by postal ballot, the secretary of the board, Mr L. E. Rowley, acting as returning officer. The members retiring are:—Northwest ward. Mr H. J. Bignell; middle ward, Mr W. P. Spencer; south ward, Mr G. W. Armitage; Christchurch urban ward, Messrs S. Baird and C. S. Thompson; Timaru urban ward, Mr G. W. Benstead.
The new members will take their seats on August 12, and a chairman will be elected. It is customary for the chairman of the board to be elected for a period of one year, but this precedent was broken last year, when* Mr Thompson was re-elected for a fur-' ther year.
