FINAL CLIMB ABOUT MAY 17

A copyright message from. Mr Hugh Ruttledge, leader of the British Everest expedition, states that the entire party has reached Camp 1 on the Rongbuk Glacier. "We are stocking Camp 2, which we will occupy on May 6," states Mr Ruttledge. "The weather is exceptionally mild, and, in view of the party's fitness, advanced acclimatisation, encouraging weather forecasts, and the favourable conditions of Everest, plans have been made for the assault on the north col about May 17."
