MEETING OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The monthly meeting of the board of directors of the Young Women's Christian Association was held at the Young Women's Christian Association club rooms on Monday. The opening devotions were led by Deaconess Spencer-Smith. Those present were Mrs Warren (the president), Mrs Gilmour (in the chair), Mesdames Warren, Lorimer, McGibbon, Flint, Hight, Rudkin, Mackay, Abernethy, Paine, Herdman, Miss Musker, Miss Walker, Miss Hewitt, Deaconess SpencerSmith, and the general secretary, Miss Brodie.
It was reported that the new Choral Hall floor had been laid, and the work of alterations to cloak rooms completed, the kitchenette only remaining to be done.
It was reported that members of the advisory board had met and had decided to circularise the city firms with an appeal for subscriptions to carry on the work amongst women and girls. The letter was signed by three members of the advisory board.
Reports and recommendations were received from the finance and executive committees for aporoval and ratification by the board. It was recommended that the name of Choral Hall be changed to Latimer Hall, which was approved. The resignation of Mrs David Bates, a member of the board of directors, was received and accepted with much regret, and a vote of thanks was accorded her for her work and the interest she had given to the association by the president. Miss Bowden's resignation from the staff was accepted with great regret, and good wishes were offered to her for her future work in the Young Women's Christian Association in Wellington. It was reported that another change on the staff had been necessary owing to illness. Miss Kiddey's resignation was also accepted with deep regret, and good wishes for her future work in the association, possibly in the North Island, when well enough to resume work, were offered to her. On account of Mrs M. McLeod's departure for a visit to Europe, it was decided to elect another vice-presi-dent. The nominations were received, having been proposed and seconded, with the result that Mrs Abernethy was elected a vice-president. The general secretary reported that a very successful Dominion conference of delegates and staff members of the association had met at Waikanae over Easter week-end, when matters of programme and policv for the future development were discussed, and groups formed for religious study. It was further reported that the junior women had decided to meet at Latimer Club once a fortnight, on Wednesday afternoons, and the Mothers' Club on alternate Tuesday afternoons. The senior members of the Latimer Club were meeting on Wednesday evenings, and had formed themselves into groups for handcraft, debates, and vollev ball. A committee consisting of 1935 members' council, and of outside representatives of business firms, had met during April to assist in the planning and the reorganisation of club activities. The girls' department committee was able to report success in the decentralised work which was being carried out in New Brighton and Sydenham.
The hostel report showed an average number of 42, mostly as permanent boarders.
Lyttelton reported great success in th" "opp penny trail," which grew to £6 3s 7d in less than one month. The senior members were working for a small sale of work to be held in June.
