BOOT'S HALF-MILE TIME NOT RECOGNISED
DECISION OF NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL
(PRISS ASSOCIATION TKLKOBAU.) WELLINGTON, May 5. Because the ground was not surveyed after the race, and on the day of the race, the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association council to-night refused to recognise V. P. Boot's time of lmin 53 2-ssec for 880 yards, run at Christchurch, as a New Zealand record. The followng records were approved: V. P. Boot, 1000 yards, 2min 14 3-ssec; 880 yards, lmin 54 4-ssec. C. H. Matthews —Three miles, 14min 18 3-ssec.
A. T. Anderson —440 yards hurdles, 55 3-ssec. August 29 was approved as the date for the New Zealand cross-country championship to be held at Auckland, provided a suitable ground is available.
PRESENTATION TO V. P. BOOT
Before his departure last evening with the members of the Olympic Games team V. P. Boot was met by members of the North Canterbury branch of the Timaru High School Old Boys' Association. A presentation was made on behalf of the branch by the president, Mr M. J. Scott, who congratulated Boot on hi; past performances and wished him success during his tour abroad. Mr Scott's remarks were endorsed by Dr. G. M. Gunn and Messrs V. J. McKibbin and J. E. Manchester. Boot was asked to convey to J. E. Lovelock another old boy of the school, the best wishes of the association.
