BIG CONSUMPTION OF ELECTRICITY

EXPANSION OF SALES IN NEW ZEALAND Captain Leslie Gamage, M.C.. export director of the General Electric Company, England, arrived in Christchurch yesterday on a visit to the main centres of New Zealand to form a distributing company to handle his company’s goods. Captain Gamage said yesterday that New Zee landers were among the highest per capita consumers of electricity in the world. Power had been developed so extensively here that there was a big demand for electrical goods and there was a great opportunity for extending the use of electrical contrivances. . His company did not intend yet to manufacture in New Zealand, but it might quite likely do so if business enough developed. Captain Gamage has just completed a six months’ tour in Australia. He will stay in Christchurch for three days, and will then visit Wellington and Auckland and leave by the Aorangi for Canada. He intends then to go to New York and return to England on the first voyage of the huge liner, Queen Mary. He will have particular interest in the voyage, as his company supplied many of the electrical fittings for the ship. Captain Gamage is accompanied by the Hon. Mrs Gamage. who is a daughter of Lord Hirst. ■
