The Dominion Observatory’s weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m., and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate and variable winds, with north-easterlies predominating, Weather for the most part fair, hut cloudy and misty or foggy at times in the plains country. Seas slight to moderate. The following is the Dominion forecaste. Some scattered rains still likely in the Auckland province, more especially in the eastern and far northern portions. Elsewhere fine for the most part, but cloudy and misty at times in the eastern and far southern districts of the South Island. Cool at night but mild day temperatures. An Intense anti-* cyclone still extends across New Zealand, and is centred near the Chatham Islands, while a series of depressions to the north continues to move eastwards. Winds—Moderate to strong easterly north of Kawhia and East Cape; of gale force at times in the far north; elsewhere light to moderate and variable, with northerlies predominating. Seas "New Zealand waters)— Rough north of East Cape and rather rough offshore north of Kawhia; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern TasmanModerate to strong easterly winds and rather rough to rough seas in the northern portion; light to moderate northerly winds and smooth to moderate seas in the southern portion. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Yesterday was mild and very pleasant in Christchurch, and the sun shone most of the day. There was only a very light north-easterly, and, the maximum temperature was 62.2 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the weather was cloudy, with a breeze from the north-east, and a temperature of 54 degrees. The barometer was steady at 30.27 in. . Meteorological observations taken at the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch, at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on April 16: — 9 a m S n.m.
