NEW ZEALAND TOURNEY CONTINUED WEIR LEADS BROWN FOR CHAMPIONSHIP (FBESS ASSOCIATION TEI-EGEAMJ DULEDIN, April 16. The New Zealand draughts tourney was continued to-day. Great interest was taken in the three rounds played, as the tourney reached a very interesting stage, the two top-scorers, G. A. Brown (Christchurch), Dominion champion on five occasions, and Robert Weir the youthful local player, being level with 21 points each. At the end of the eighteenth round to-night, Weir finished one point ahead of Brown, his score being 254 points, and Brown s 24i. In the afternoon. Lucas and Brown met, the result being one win each. In the evening, Brown met Weir, with the same result—one win each. Brown has now lost four games and Weir three One more session will be played to-morrow morning to conclude the tourney, when Weir will play Shanks, and Brown will play O Malley.
